We offer products developed to meet the sports turf demand for sand, stone and soil for both field construction and maintenance.
Our Business Philosophy
We know that growing our business requires having better products, service, delivery, and pricing than our competition. Our philosophy entails an ongoing commitment to offer these to our customers while also supporting the superintendents through the associations they participate in. We’re committed to meeting the specific demands of this industry, and strive to establish positive, long term working relationships with the turf professionals that call on us.

Bunker Sands
Bunker Sands have various properties which affect playability, aesthetics and required maintenance. Sands should be chosen carefully with a full understanding of their specific properties to assure success. Mitchell Products offers several grades of bunker sands, each with unique physical and aesthetic characteristics including those with high penetrometer levels, site specific colors, and varying drainage characteristics.
White Bunker Sands
VF White
This crushed sand dries very white and carries a penetrometer value of about 2.6. Drainage rate of 18” per hour and minimal crusting make this an ideal sand for contrast with green complexes.
GC-300
Our most popular sub-angular sand. A nice off-white color, good set up and drainage properties, and a low price point with little silt and clay allowing for excellent drainage with good resistance to fried-egg lies.
Buff Bunker Sands
GC-286
This buff colored sand is often used where architects and members prefer a more natural look as opposed to the whiter sands. Slightly finer grade which plays firm.
VF Buff
A very popular sand used on many of the premier golf courses in the region. It is a crushed aggregate with a natural sand color and a penetrometer value near 2.7.

Divot Mixes
A quality divot mix should contain enough organic matter, silt and clay to hold sufficient moisture to aid in seed germination and root growth. Too little, and seed germination will be delayed; too much, and downward root growth may be inhibited.
Because users prefer varying degrees of water holding capabilities, we offer several distinct grades of divot mixes. When choosing a divot mix, consideration should be given to the textural analysis and physical properties of the existing sub-soil to assure compatibility.
Bulk Mixes
GC-240 70-20-10 Sand / Sphagnum peat / Topsoil
A well-draining divot mix compatible with most soils. Can also be used for construction of tees and golf greens.
GC-230 60-40 Sand / Green waste compost
A dark, rich divot mix with maximum water retention. Organic source is green waste compost.
GC-223 60-40 Sand / Native topsoil
A blend of sand and topsoil, ideal for use in topdressing athletic fields or any area with a topsoil sub base.
Box/Sack Mixes
GC-950 Green colored divot mix (Dry)
93-7 Sand / Peat humus. Our premium green dyed product. Humus is added without pre-drying to assure the mix is non-hydrophobic. Shipped dry in 2500lb supersacks or boxes.
GC-900 Green colored sand (Dry)
Dry, dyed green sand. Shipped in 2500lb supersacks.
GC-980 Straight Sand Topdress (Dry)
Dry, straight sand. Shipped in 2500lb supersacks.

Root Zone Mixes
Selecting the right materials for root zone construction is one of the most important decisions a turf manager will make, as it affects both the quality of the turf and the maintenance requirements to maintain it. Providing quality blended soils requires not only the ability to properly blend and screen materials such as sand, peat, compost and topsoil, but also the ability to consistently produce sands that meet the USGA specifications. Mitchell Products does both.
We first assure that any mix chosen matches the needs of each site specific project. To do this, we work hand in hand with turf professionals, architects, consultants, and test laboratories, while also relying on our own extensive experience. Our production capabilities allow us to produce and ship hundreds of tons per day to keep multiple projects on schedule while still maintaining quality standards.
Since our company inception in 1998, no one has shipped more root zone mix to more varied projects for both golf and other sports turf applications in our area. Whether for a high profile professional field, or a 9-hole municipal golf course, we apply the same standards and attention to all projects.

Topdressing Sands
Topdressing plays a critical role in turf maintenance as it aids in smoothing the turf surface while acting to break down thatch. Although there are many types of topdress programs, all agree that regular application of properly graded sand is necessary for growing healthy turf.
We offer several grades of dried and damp sands for greens and fairway programs graded to fall within the USGA guidelines and consistent in particle size and in uniformity.
A topdressing compatibility program is offered through Hummel & Company testing laboratory which allows any golf club currently using a competitor’s sand to test his green’s soil profile against our topdressing for compatibility. We pay the cost so you have the assurance you need that switching to one of our sand grades will carry no risk of layering.
GC-500
A blend of 90% sand and 10% peat humus, this dry topdressing sand mix is screened to remove particles larger than 1mm. The Peat humus chosen is fully decomposed and won’t compete for nitrogen as other organics additives do. The fine humus particles stick to the sand surfaces during the mixing and drying process providing a clean mix with little free organics.
GC-350
This straight dry topdressing sand meets all USGA particle size specifications. Like the 90-10, it works well into tight turf and can also be used for drill and fill applications. Available in bulk and 2500 lb. boxes and supersacks.
GC-270
The GC-270 is the most tightly screened damp sand available. It’s cost effective and meets the particle size recommendations of the USGA Green Section for root zone construction, making it compatible with all greens built to these specifications.
GC-260
The GC-260 is inexpensive damp sand consistently graded to USGA specifications. Although not as tightly screened as the dry sands or GC-270, it is a clean material perfect for use as a fairway topdressing.

Quality Control
Quality Control at Mitchell Products is not just a set of procedures, but an actual business philosophy. It starts with the commitment of our employees from top to bottom who understand how important every load is to the customer that orders it.
To meet our own specifications and internal quality standards, testing and controls follow the sands through every stage of processing and classifying. Once "on the ground", it’s too late then to start the QC. Our control measures range in complexity from simple visual inspections of stockpiles to intricate lab testing for particle size and physical properties.
We understand the obstacles and impediments that present themselves affecting product quality, and we strive to make sure you never have to know about them.
